Spring into small moments of recognition: April at The Children’s Trust

Published on: 01/04/26

The changing of seasons is the perfect time to pause and reflect. As spring arrives and the days grow lighter, we take the opportunity to look at what we have achieved and where we are heading. It's a chance for us to recognise the individual hard work of the children and families we support; their resilience, determination and personal goal setting, as well as their dedication, and that of our staff and volunteers.

For children and young people with a brain injury, rehabilitation is a journey. Progress often comes in small, meaningful moments... sitting up a little longer than yesterday, saying yes to something new, sharing a smile, and working with therapists towards personal goals. These are built through lots of small moments of dedication and always with the encouragement from friends, family and staff.

As we emerge from winter into spring, we are inspired to match the strength and tenacity of the children we support; to pay attention to small moments, to keep showing up, and to celebrate the wins that mean so much.

April activities

Enrichment is a wonderful opportunity to come together during the break and enjoy something fun and meaningful with the children we support. From doughnut decorating to dancing to calming sound baths, there’s so much planned to bring children, staff, volunteers and families together. It's an important time for creating connections and enjoying activities beyond rehabilitation or school.

Setting a personal goal

With so many running events this month, from the London Marathon to London Landmarks, we’re celebrating showing up, taking on the challenge, and recognising every moment along the way. All the training, pushing through the hardest miles, and giving it your all. Of course, all of this happens alongside the incredible determination of the children we support. Taking on a challenge isn’t just about crossing a finish line; it’s also about sharing the efforts alongside the children and families we support who work incredibly hard every single day.

Future plans

As we move further into the year, there’s a lot to feel hopeful about. We’re already making progress on our 2025–2030 strategy, which sets out our ambitions for the future and the ways we’ll continue strengthening our support for children with brain injury and neurodisability.
